The GNCC is on break so I had planned a trip to come back home to Australia to compete in the last two rounds of the Australian Motocross Championships and one local two man four hour which will be fun.
I landed in AUS on Wednesday morning, we drove 5 hours home and I put my gear on and went for a ride. On the Thursday I put on some RG3 suspension and some different Posey engine mods to help with MX and loaded up the bike to head off to the races.
I haven’t done a national MX since 2006 before I left for the USA for GNCC and I have only done a handful of Mx’s since then so I was excited to come back and race. I practiced moto a fair bit during the week back there so it wasn’t so bad. After practice and timed qualifying I had 10th fastest time and had 10th gate pick which was pretty good. I picked the gate in between the guys going one-two in the championship so if I had a bad jump I could get in behind and hopefully get through the first turn ok. I had moved into about 10th spot after the start and was feeling pretty good, about 10 minutes into the race I got a flat tire, I was on a motocross track so to get a flat I was pretty bummed about that, The Australian Suzuki team tried to fit a wheel but different size sprockets prevented me from finishing the race.
Second moto I got a little better start and was in around 7th, I stayed there for most of the moto but crashed with about three laps to go and dropped back to 10th where I finished up.
I wasn’t too happy with my results but I enjoyed it and its good practice and tune up for the last four races, I forgot how intense MX is and I also forgot how less beat up I get after only two 30 min moto’s instead of a 3 hour race.
